Equipment

  • Air fryer Ensure it is preheated for best results.
  • Mixing bowl For marinating the chicken.
  • Measuring Spoons For accurate measurement of ingredients.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs boneless chicken thighs, skin on
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • No alcoholic drinks allowed, please substitute with a non-alcoholic option.

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken thighs' skin dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture and place them in a large container or bowl.
  • Add the minced garlic, ginger paste, hoisin sauce, light soy sauce, and dark soy sauce to the chicken. Mix well to ensure all the meat is coated in the marinade. Cover and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or ideally overnight for enhanced flavor.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) five minutes before cooking.
  • Place the marinated chicken thighs in the air fryer basket, skin side up, ensuring they are in a single layer. This allows for even cooking.
  • Air fry the chicken thighs at 180°C (360°F) for 20-25 minutes. Check on the chicken around the 10-minute mark to prevent the skin from burning. If you want extra crispy skin, you can increase the temperature for the last few minutes.
  • Once cooked, slice the chicken and serve with steamed rice. Garnish with spring onions for a pop of color and freshness.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can sprinkle sesame seeds or chopped cilantro on the chicken before serving.
