Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch (23x33cm) baking dish with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric beater on low speed to cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the eggs one at a time. Mix in the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Stir in the applesauce and vanilla, then gently fold in the walnuts. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool before serving.

- For an extra touch, drizzle the cake with a glaze made by mixing 1/2 cup (60g) confectioners' sugar and 1 to 2 teaspoons of water.
