8cupsthinly sliced tart apples(6–8 medium to large apples)
2cupsgranulated sugar, divided
2teaspoonsground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking pan and set it aside.
In a food processor, combine 2 cups of flour and salt. Add 1 cup (2 sticks) of butter cut into pieces. Pulse until the mixture resembles peas. Add ice water one tablespoon at a time, pulsing until moist crumbs form.
Spread the crumbs in the prepared baking dish, pressing gently with your fingers. Bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden. Let it cool slightly.
While the crust bakes, peel and slice the apples, tossing them with 1 cup of sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl.
Spread the apple slices over the baked crust evenly.
In the same food processor, combine the remaining 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter, and 1 cup sugar until it resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples in the pan.
Bake for 60-70 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let it cool on a wire rack until firm. Cut into 12 large squares or 24 smaller squares.
Notes
For a twist, add a handful of chopped nuts to the crumble topping for extra crunch.
