  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cup sliced carrots about 2 large carrots
  • 2 cup sliced sweet potatoes halved and quartered, about 2 small sweet potatoes
  • 2 cup diced apples from about 2 apples
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp salt divided
  • 0.5 tsp pepper
  • 1.5 tsp rubbed sage divided
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • nutmeg a sprinkle
  • 2 lbs ground lean turkey
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 3 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cup strained tomatoes or marinara sauce
  • 1 can kidney beans

Instructions
 

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add the diced apples, sliced sweet potatoes, and sliced carrots to the pot. Sprinkle with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, rubbed sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add ground turkey, break it into smaller pieces, and cook for 5-7 minutes until no longer pink.
  • Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, and salt until mixed well.
  • Pour in the crushed and strained tomatoes, stir to combine.
  • Reduce heat to low-medium and simmer for 20-30 minutes; add kidney beans towards the end if using.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the seasonings to suit your taste preferences. This chili can be served with toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or avocado slices.
