Equipment

  • Oven-safe skillet Ensure it's large enough for the recipe.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 0.75 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 pound dry gnocchi
  • 2 cups chopped fresh spinach
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned, about 3 to 4 minutes. Tip: Break the beef apart with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  • Add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently.
  • Sprinkle in the flour and cook for another minute, ensuring no white remains. This helps to thicken the sauce later.
  • Gradually stir in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Reduce the heat to medium and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 3 to 4 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.
  • Add the uncooked gnocchi and chopped spinach to the skillet, stirring to combine everything well. Tip: Make sure the gnocchi is well coated in the creamy mixture.
  • Sprinkle the top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese. Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  • If you like a golden top, uncover the skillet and broil for a few minutes until slightly browned. Tip: Keep an eye on it to prevent burning!
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in some sun-dried tomatoes or artichoke hearts. You can substitute the heavy cream with a lighter option if desired, but the texture may vary.
