  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1.5 cup diced onions
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1.5 cup sour cream
  • 0.75 cup mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup horseradish adjust to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.125 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • 0.5 cup crispy French fried onions
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add diced onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the onions while cooking for added flavor.
  • Remove from heat and let cool.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, garlic powder, paprika, pepper, oregano, cayenne pepper, and the remaining salt. Mix well.
  • Add the cooled caramelized onions to the mixture and stir to combine.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and stir before serving.
  • Top with crispy French fried onions, chives, and paprika before serving.

Notes

Feel free to customize the spice levels and add more crispy fried onions for extra crunch.
