  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter melted until lightly browned
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3.5 tablespoons honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1.25 teaspoons flaky sea salt divided
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup shelled salted pistachios roughly chopped

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). This is the perfect temperature to ensure the bars bake evenly.
  • Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, then lightly spray the parchment and any exposed areas of the pan with non-stick spray. This will help the bars come out easily after baking.
  • In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter until it just begins to brown. Keep a close eye on it to avoid burning; the aroma will be heavenly!
  • In a large bowl, combine the browned butter, brown sugar, and honey. Beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  • Add the egg and egg yolk to the bowl, whisking until fully combined. This adds richness to the batter.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon of the flaky sea salt and the flour. Mix gently; be careful not to overmix! Overmixing can lead to tough bars.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the remaining salt and the chopped pistachios on top for added flavor and texture.
  • Bake for 23-25 minutes, or until the edges are set, the top is golden, and the center is still slightly soft. A toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs for the perfect texture.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, carefully remove them and transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, cut into small squares and enjoy! Serve them fresh with a cup of tea or coffee for a delightful treat.

Notes

For a fun twist, try adding chocolate chips or dried fruit to the batter. These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
