Equipment

  • Oven Preheat to 375°F (190°C)
  • Skillet For searing chicken
  • Baking Dish 9x13 inches, greased

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1.5 cups marinara sauce
  • 0.5 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and position the rack in the middle.
  • Season both sides of each chicken breast with garlic powder, salt, and pepper for added flavor.
  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the chicken breasts for 5 minutes on each side until golden brown. This step locks in the juices, making the chicken tender.
  • Transfer the seared chicken to a greased 9x13 baking dish. Make sure they are evenly spaced for proper cooking.
  • Pour the marinara sauce over the chicken, using a spoon to spread it evenly around and on top for maximum flavor.
  • Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the chicken, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese. The mixture of these cheeses will create a delightful crust.
  • Bake uncovered for 20 minutes. If your chicken breasts are smaller, check for doneness at 15 minutes to avoid overcooking.
  • For a deliciously browned cheese topping, broil the chicken for a few minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning. This step adds a nice texture to the cheese.
  • Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving to ensure it stays juicy. Remember, chicken is safe to eat when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in some Italian herbs with the marinara sauce. Serve with a side of pasta or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
