  • 8 ounces strong brewed coffee
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • 0.75 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon concentrated coffee
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk or cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • No alcoholic drinks allowed, please substitute with a non-alcoholic option.

Instructions
 

  • Boil the brewed coffee until it reduces to about 2 tablespoons.
  • Preheat the oven to 350ºF (175ºC) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Melt the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, reduced coffee, concentrated coffee, flour, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  • For the mocha frosting, melt the unsweetened baking chocolate and 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan. Stir in the coffee, milk or cream, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  • Spread the mocha frosting over the cooled brownies and cut into individual servings.
  • Store any leftovers at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

For an extra kick of coffee flavor, sprinkle some finely ground coffee beans on top of the frosting before cutting the brownies.
