Main Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 small red bell pepper, finely diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- to taste salt
- to taste freshly ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 0.5 teaspoon paprika
- 0.5 teaspoon cumin
- 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 0.25 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 0.33 cup dried currants or raisins
- 0.5 cup green pitted olives
- 0.33 cup chopped parsley
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 5 to 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
Reduce the heat to medium. Add the onion and bell pepper, sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes. Tip: Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Add the garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. This step enhances the dish's aroma and flavor.
Stir in the paprika, cumin, oregano, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cover and simmer on medium-low for 15 minutes. Tip: Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Add the currants (or raisins) and olives. Continue cooking, uncovered, for another 10-15 minutes. The currants will add a sweet note to the dish.
Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Stir in the chopped parsley for a fresh finish and serve! Enjoy your meal!
