  • 1 package dry onion soup mix
  • 1.5 cups hot water
  • 0.75 cup long grain rice, uncooked
  • 16 oz canned tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 small can mushrooms (optional)

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Add the dry onion soup mix and hot water, stirring well to combine.
  • Add the canned tomatoes (and optional mushrooms) for extra flavor.
  • Stir in the uncooked rice, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
  • Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 25 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top. Cover again, allowing the cheese to melt, which should take about 5 minutes.
