Chopsticks or Skewers To prevent cutting through the potatoes
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
4largerusset potatoeswashed and patted dry
4tablespoonsunsalted buttermelted, divided
1teaspoonkosher salt
0.5teaspoonpepper
Salt and pepperto taste
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and position a rack in the middle. Prepare a baking sheet without lining it.
Place a potato between two chopsticks or skewers to avoid cutting through completely. Slice vertical cuts into the potatoes, about ⅛ inch apart, stopping when the knife touches the chopsticks, keeping the base intact. Repeat for all potatoes. Tip: This technique ensures even cooking and prevents the potatoes from falling apart.
Put the potatoes on the baking sheet and brush about half of the melted butter over them, ensuring the butter gets into the cuts. Sprinkle with salt and pepper for flavor.
Bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, gently fan out the slices with a knife and brush the remaining melted butter over the top. Tip: This step enhances the crispiness and flavor of the potatoes.
Continue baking for another 30-35 minutes until the potatoes are crispy outside and soft inside. Cooking times may vary depending on the potato size, so keep an eye on them.
Serve the Hasselback Potatoes warm, and season with extra salt and pepper to your liking. Tip: These potatoes are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven!
Notes
For a twist, sprinkle grated cheese or fresh herbs over the potatoes before the final baking.
