Equipment

  • Pan or Skillet For cooking the chicken and sauce.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 0.5 cup corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons oil (peanut or vegetable)
  • 0.333 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, chopped
  • 0.333 cup chicken broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar, or white vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (tamari or gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken pieces with the beaten egg, ensuring they are fully coated. Gradually mix in the corn starch until the chicken is evenly coated.
  • Heat the oil in a pan, skillet, or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken, making sure to separate the pieces, and cook until golden brown, about 2-4 minutes per side.
  • While the chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce by mixing together the honey, chopped garlic, chicken broth, vinegar, soy sauce, red pepper flakes (if using), and additional corn starch in a separate bowl.
  • Once the chicken is browned, pour the sauce mixture into the pan. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 minute, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • If desired, add the butter to the pan and let it melt into the sauce for extra richness. Stir well before serving.

Notes

For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes. Serve over rice or with steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
