Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 9 slices honey wheat bread
  • 9 slices roasted turkey deli meat
  • 9 slices honey ham deli meat
  • 3 slices mild cheddar cheese
  • 3 slices Swiss cheese
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 /2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 2/3 cups water
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup vegetable or canola oil for deep frying
  • 1 /2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 serving red raspberry preserves for dipping
  • 1 serving honey mustard optional for dipping

Instructions

  • Layer the sandwiches by placing turkey, Swiss cheese, ham, cheddar cheese, and another slice of bread on top. Cut each sandwich diagonally and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours or overnight. Tip: Chilling the sandwiches helps them hold together during frying.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk water and beaten eggs, then combine with the dry ingredients to create a batter. Set aside. Note: The batter should be thick enough to coat the sandwiches without dripping off.
  • Heat oil in a large pot to 325°F-350°F. Tip: Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature for frying.
  • Dip each chilled sandwich into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Tip: Let any excess batter drip off before frying.
  • Using tongs, carefully place the battered sandwich into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Tip: Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot, which can lower the oil temperature.
  • Remove the fried sandwich and let it drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Note: This will help keep the sandwiches crispy.
  • Sprinkle confectioners' sugar over the sandwich and serve with raspberry preserves for dipping. Honey mustard can also be used as a dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

For a twist, try adding a slice of cooked beef bacon to the sandwich before frying for extra flavor. No alcoholic drinks allowed, please substitute with a non-alcoholic option.
