Equipment

  • medium saucepan For cooking the dip.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.75 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp mustard powder
  • 0.25 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 1 cup non-alcoholic beer No alcoholic drinks allowed, please substitute with a non-alcoholic option.
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated gruyere cheese
  • units pretzels For serving.

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Be sure to stir constantly to prevent burning.
  • Add the flour and stir constantly until a wet, sand-like texture forms, about 3-5 minutes. This step is crucial for a smooth dip!
  • Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and Worcestershire sauce; cook for an additional 30 seconds to release the flavors.
  • Add the milk and non-alcoholic beer, whisking until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 30-60 seconds. Keep an eye on it to avoid overcooking.
  • Gradually add a third of the cheddar and gruyere cheeses, whisking until melted and fully combined, about 1 minute. Repeat with the remaining cheese until all is melted and creamy.
  • Serve the beer cheese dip in a bowl with pretzels on the side for dipping. Enjoy with friends and family!

Notes

For a twist, try adding a dash of hot sauce for a spicy kick to your beer cheese dip.
